Explaining the reworked structure, Star India national sales head,
senior vice-president Kevin Vaz, said there were natural synergies
between Star Plus and Utsav therefore the decision to give over
charge of both channels to Ravindranath. Incidentally, it is Vaz
himself who has been handling both the channels hands-on thus far.
Shailesh Bijlani, who earlier reported to Monica Tata and handled
Star World, Star Movies and Channel [V], moves up as national sales
head in the vacancy left after Tata's move to Turner India. As has
already been reported, ad sales for National Geographic Channel
and The History Channel have now shifted out from the Star India
purview and is under a a special division set up by NGC for this
purpose. The erstwhile Cartoon Network India executive director
strategic marketing Nikhil Mirchandani heads the NGC sales team.
The other significant change is that senior V-P Joy Chakravarti,
who earlier headed Star News, Star Gold and Star Vijay, will now
look after Star Gold and any new channels that may launch on the
network in the coming months.
The national portfolio for Star Vijay comes under Sriram, who earlier
handled Chennai and other retail centres in the south. Shanti Rao,
meanwhile, takes over as all-India head for Star News. Vaz, however,
clarified that in the case of Star News, this was purely a stop-gap
arrangement. Vaz said in due course a national head for Star News
would be recruited to whom Rao would report.
