College bands are invited to participate in this competition, to vie for the title of the best Rock Band in the country. The clash of titans commences at Bangalore. This will comprise college bands from within the city and surrounding regions.

The winner then takes on the winners from other cities to decide the regional champion. The best regional bands then compete at the national level where the Campus Rock Idol will emerge victorious and be crowned.

Events will be held at 11 different cities across the geographic spread of the country. These events will be captured and edited to a television special series by MTV.
