MUMBAI: Hong Kong's foreign-owned mainland TV channels operated by Tom Group and News Corp's Star TV have been recording triple-digit ad sales growth at their networks in China, posting triple-digit gains, said a Reuters report.

STAR's Xing Kong channel experienced 180 per cent ad sales growth for this fiscal year. Star's China operations president Jamie Davis is quoted in media reports as saying, "ad revenues for the two-year-old channel in the just-concluded fiscal year totalled in the tens of millions of dollars."

For the TOM Group which operates China Entertainment Television (CETV), ad sales are expected to go up by $4.5 million from last year's $1.4million.

News Corp and Time Warner received rights to broadcast to mass Chinese audiences in affluent Guangdong Province two years ago. According to media research firm CVSC-TNS Research, print and television advertising in China grew 39 per cent to US$18.7 billion in 2003.
