MUMBAI: Brian Lara and the gang may have taken a hammering at home against England and lost the test series 3-0 but that has not stopped mobile service operator Diigicel from sponsoring the West Indies cricket team.

The multi-million dollar sponsorship deal that Digicel signed with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), is for five years with an option to renew. It will start when the Windies tour Australia in January 2005

Digicel will become the official sponsor of the West Indies Test and One Day International (ODI) teams, event sponsors for the home test and ODI Series, and the official mobile and communications provider of the WICB. Digicel’s new sponsorship deal will help the company promote its mobile business across the Caribbean. In India Ten Sports has the rights to cricket played in the West Indies.

Digicel Group chairnman Denis O'Brien added, "Digicel takes enormous pride in becoming the official main sponsor of the West Indies Cricket team. As the number one Caribbean mobile telecommunications provider we are committed to further strengthening our involvement in communities throughout the Caribbean.

We believe in the future of the Caribbean and its cricket. Our intention is to enable West Indies Cricket to get back to the top of world Test cricket and to success in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007."
