This is the first time that Carey has come out on top. His film
Bruce Almighty was one of around 15 films that crossed the
$100 million mark last year. The runner up was Nicole Kidman. She
won the Oscar last year for The Hours and might do an encore
this year for Cold Mountain. Tom Cruise came in fourth. Interestingly
despite not having a movie this year Tom Hanks only dropped to eighth
place.
Johnny Depp makes an entry into the list for the first time courtesy
Disney's summer blockbuster Pirates of The Carribean. The
Quigley Poll surveys motion picture exhibitors in the US every year.
They are asked to vote for the ten stars that generated the most
box-office revenue in the preceding year for their theatres.
Exhibitors were also asked to name the stars of tomorrow for the
year. These are people whom they feel will be big box office draws
in the years that lie ahead. The winners were Ashton Kutcher and
Scarlett Johansson who has won critical acclaim for Girl with
a Pearl Earring and Lost in Translation.
