MUMBAI: A change in the brand that sponsors the pageant is surely not going to make any difference to the pageant itself. While last year it was Sunsilk who was associated with Femina Miss India, this year it is Pond's. India's biggest beauty pageant - Pond's Femina Miss India 2004 which is going to be held on 27 March has announced 8 February as the last date for sending in entries.

With the last date for entries to the pageant drawing close, Hindustan Lever Ltd category head for Skin Care Vivek Rampal said, "The response has been very encouraging and we are delighted to be part of the pageant that provides a platform for every individual participant to identify and explore her inner strengths to become 'as beautiful as she wants to be'. The Pond's Femina Miss India woman is a woman of today who is beautifully radiant and effortlessly stylish and a perfect balance between the mind and the body, between personality and beauty - the very essence that the pageant represents. The Pond's Femina Miss India beauty pageant is a definitive step towards reaffirming Pond's positioning as a beauty, grooming and skincare specialist for the contemporary Indian woman."

Added Times Infotainment Media Ltd MD and CEO A P Parigi, "It has always been our endeavor to be associated with international brands like Pond's, who demonstrate a convergence of views on how to reinforce and develop a platform for the contemporary Indian woman. We look forward to an aggressive participation by young aspirants from across the country."

The concept of a beauty pageant has undergone a metamorphosis since the first Femina Miss India contest held in 1965. It is no longer just a pretty face that is the main criterion for the selection. The Miss India of today doesn't only have to be intelligent, confident, savvy and well groomed, but also has to retain the essence of her Indian heritage. An official release informs that this representation of today's Indian woman makes it a natural fit for Pond's, which embodies similar values.
