Guangchun, who is also the Chairman of China Radio, Film and Television
group, and his team had a look at the MPC’s indigenously developed
long form 3d production Jungle Tales, inspired by the Panchatantra
Tales.
“The Minister expressed keen interest to collaborate with MPC to
develop Jungle Tales further and dub it to take to Chinese audiences.
He saw several cultural similarities between Chinese folk lore and
Jungle Tales. He felt that the Japanese and American animation that
the Chinese children are currently exposed to is actually unsuitable
as it portrays violence,” said Pankan Bhusan, vice-president – business
development, MPC.
Bhushan added: “He found that both India and China share a rich
cultural heritage and that there would be tremendous synergy to
draw upon if the two countries collaborated in films, television
and animation, especially given the low production costs in the
two countries.”
MPC, which had test marketed Jungle Tales in the India International
Trade Fair (IITF) towards the end of the last year, is expected
to finalise its first client for the new series in the near future.
The narration and treatment of the series has been created considering
the “lifestyle of today’s kids”. The primary target group is kids
but the stories make for fun viewing for the entire family. “We
are initially planning 13 episodes but might increase it to 26 depending
upon the response from the audience.” MPCL, which specialises in
television software and documentary films apart from 3D animation,
is targeting the particular segment of international audiences that
has a liking for Indian films.
