Plotline: "Movies and cricket are two religions that
bind the channel. If we are not giving them as much cricket, we
will make them Deewana with the movies," offered assistant
vice- president - marketing, PR and commercial Tushar Shah.
So after Mandira Aapke Ghar, the channel is all set to launch
the sequel to the gully cricket ad. This time round, the focus is
not cricket but movies. Having already bagged three of the five
big blockbusters of 2003 - Tere Naam, Koi Mil Gaya and Baghban
(expect announcements on Kal Ho Na Ho and Munnabhai
MBBS as well) - touting their movie collection would naturally
be priority number one.
Why Kapil...? Why not, he is the brand ambassador after
all. "Ever since the last gully cricket ad, every time someone
thinks about Kapil beyond cricket the first thing that comes to
peoples mind is the ad," says Euro RSCG vice president - creative
Ashok Karnik, the brain behind the ad. The ad saw a brattish but
extremely smart kid from a a chawl (lower middle class tenement)
taking on the Big Man himself.
But why a sequel...? "While Kapil was already a star,
even the kid became one. The ads were so well appreciated that be
it the gully cricket kid or the Rangoli ad, the models became celebrities
in their own right," offered ad whiz and Genesis Films CEO
Prahlad Kakkar. "With such a great track record, why not do
a sequel..., " he opined. Why not, indeed.
Return of the Rock Star and Kapil Dev too...
After winning 14 awards and many honorable mentions in different
advertising award functions, the tyke-cricketing legend duo is back.
After a showcasing the cricket passion, the dueling duo is back
to promote cricket.
With the kid challenging Kapil in the first edition, the sequel
has Kapil back in the kid's locality challenging him to a duel.
Out comes the kid a little taller and with oodles of attitude to
boot. Rockstar as Kakkar calls him provokes Kapil to hunt him instead.
Location: Its a similar chawl scenario, but this time the
action is not the cricket. It's calm... and a little eerie too.
Act Two; Scene One
An Agitated Kapil responds to the kid's challenge. Kapil calls the
kid out... the kid retorts with a louder response.
Act Two; Scene Two
Kapil running
the kid goading him on.
Act Two; Scene Three
Kapil is still chasing the kid but now he starts wondering about
the unsual silence. Just as he is just about to stop the chase,
the camera pans to a room full of MAX Deewana's glued to the television
screen.
Act Two; Scene Four
Kapil meets the kid... and then
.....well you'll have to wait and watch.
MAX.... Deewana bana de...
Psst... there is a sequel to this ad as well...
