Emap acquires Cannes Lions Intl ad fest for £52.5 million

MUMBAI: European publishing giant - Emap has acquired the "Oscars of the advertising industry" - Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival from Roger Hatchuel. The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is the global advertising industry's biggest awards event. Some media reports indicate that the company paid about $100 million to acquire the festival.
 
 

According to a media report, Emap will be integrating the festival into the media business of its communications arm, which includes film and broadcast magazines Screen International and Broadcast.

 
 

Emap finance director Gary Hughes was quoted in the media report saying that the company was planning to extend the scope of the awards, and would add a slew of new exhibitions to the event. He also said that the CEO of the festival Savage would continue to hold office.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival which was set up in 1954 and is inspired by the Cannes Film Festival is held every year in June.

Emap, which is based in England, is the owner of radio and publishing properties throughout Europe. It is the number two publisher of consumer magazines in the UK and number one in France and has titles like FHM, Heat, Smash Hits and Tele Star.
