An official release informs that Giant is India’s first hypermarket, which is backed by the RPG group. Hypermarkets are a combination of supermarkets and discount stores offering customers a large array of low priced food and non-food items under one roof. It provides a comfortable shopping environment with pack sizes tailored to individuals and bulk buyers.

The first Giant outlet opened in Hyderabad a couple of years ago. Over 15,000 customers walk in every day. After the consumer acceptance and endorsement of the store, the chain is now ready for a national roll out with the second outlet ready to open in the western suburbs of Mumbai shortly.

Giant CEO Kruben Moodliar added that retailing is one of the single largest industries the world over and their business partners are therefore associated with tremendous growth and success. He said that Giant would look forward to some outstanding advertising support from Grey that would be pioneering in the Indian context.
