MUMBAI: FCB Ulka executive director MG Parameswaran has assumed charge as the new president of The Advertising Club, Bombay. During the annual general meeting of the Club held in Mumbai yesterday, the names of the new committee members were also announced.

Parameswaran, popularly known as 'Ambi' would be taking charge from outgoing president Pradeep Guha (director of The Times of India group). Parameswaran was earlier designated as the joint secretary of the Bombay Ad Club and the chairperson of the Ad Club’s programming committee. In fact, Parameswaran was holding centre-stage at the Emvies 2003 function held in Mumbai on Thursday, 26 June. He presented the coveted Best Media Marketer of the year award to the Malayala Manorama team.

Some of the other office bearers include Emvies 2003 committee chairperson Kalpana Rao (of O&M India) as the new vice-president; Lowe group president and COO Pranesh Misra as secretary; SSC&B director Ajay Chandwani as joint secretary; and Nagesh Alai as treasurer of the Bombay Ad Club. Bipin Pandit recently assumed charge as the general manager of The Advertising Club, Bombay.

The new committee also has personalities such as: Bhaskar Das (of The Times Group), Bal Palekar (of Eureka Forbes), Rohit Adya (of the Hindustan Times), Umesh Shrikhande (of Euro RSCG India), Nishi Suri (of O&M India) and AdAsia 2003 planning committee chairman Ramesh Narayan. Of course, PG (Pradeep Guha) will definitely be a part of the committee in order to provide his expertise and leverage his contacts. One definitely looks forward to The Ad Club getting Bollywood personalities such as Aamir Khan to attend the Abbies; Manisha Koirala and Namrata Shirodkar to attend the Emvies.

The next frontier will be AdAsia - the continent's most prestigious ad event and India is getting a chance to host it after 21 years (the last was in 1982). AdAsia, arguably Asia's largest marketing, media and advertising event, is held every alternate year in the region. It attracts over 1,000 top managers from all the three disciplines. All eyes will be on AdAsia 2003 and Ambi Parameswaran's new team!
