LOS ANGELES: This month an episode of The West Wing which
features Martin Sheen as the President included a plotline featuring
the non-profit US organisation Rock the Vote. In the season's
second episode press secretary C.J. Cregg (Allison Janney) will
speak to a crowd of young people about the importance of youth empowerment
and civic and political engagement during a Rock the Vote fundraiser
at the House of Blues. In addition, the episode featured performances
by musical acts Aimee Mann and Barenaked Ladies. The episode aired
on 2 October on NBC. In India the show aitrs on Zee English.
An official release informs that Rock the Vote was founded in 1990
by members of the recording industry in response to a wave of attacks
on freedom of speech and artistic expression. The organisation aim
at fostering a better understanding of political ideas and processes
and provides concrete ways for youth to promote change in their
communities.
The episode titled College Kids re-created Rock the Vote's
annual Patrick Lippert Awards. The Lippert awards are dedicated
to those musicians, entertainers and community activists whose personal
mission is to improve the world for future generations by inspiring
and educating America's youth.
