Logica and
Reuters have joined hands to bring live images and content
from the World Cup to mobile phones, using the Multimedia
Messaging module (MMS) of The Messaging Platform from Logica.
Content and application providers will be the main source
of the traffic and revenue in the first phase of MMS, says
a company release. Reuters, as a widely read news source on
the Internet, will be a major player in mobile broadcast services,
feels the company.
The immediate results of this partnership are on display at
the ongoing CommunicAsia 2002 in Singapore where Logica will
broadcast Reuters content on its stand. World Cup breaking
news with pictures, game summaries and video will be the highlight
of the demonstration. Reuters Internet Delivery Service and
The Messaging Platform from Logica will be the core technologies
used.
Logica plans to introduce Reuters content services to its
mobile operator customers as a packaged service this summer.
Reuters senior VP strategic partnerships, pictures, sport
and graphics Monique Villa says the company has deployed its
largest ever off-site editorial operation in Korea and Japan
with 190 editorial staff, including 128 journalists, to ensure
customers receive the widest and largest package of multi
media news from the World Cup.
