Discovery Channel has launched a new 'challenge' for children
called Real Kids, Real Adventures Contest.
A part of the Discovery Kids time band, the initiative will
commence from 21 August 21 and will target students from classes
6 to 9 and reach 500 schools across five metros - Delhi, Mumbai,
Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. Says Deepak Shourie, Managing
Director, Discovery Communications India, " Real Kids, Real
Adventures is a contest where students get the opportunity
to combine mental ability with physical skill. The highlight
of the contest is a special adventure camp for students. The
aim of the camp is to help students imbibe the spirit of healthy
sportsmanship, inculcating values such as teamwork and camaraderie,
and teaches them to be disciplined citizens of society".
Discovery Channel will kick-off the first phase of the contest
with the school contact programme, through which students
can participate in the contest by filling up the Real Kids,
Real Adventure Contest forms. Students will be required to
watch the Real Kids, Real Adventures programmes on Discovery
Kids and then answer the questions in the forms. These will
then be collated and the 100 best entries from all the five
cities (20 per city) selected.
Five shortlisted finalists from each school
will be invited for a unique Real Kids, Real Adventures camp
at Sitlakhet, Uttaranchal. The three nights and four-day camp
will include physical and mental challenges, which the participants
will need to overcome. The student who excels in the physical
and mental challenges at the camp will be adjudged the winner
and will receive a scholarship of Rs. 1,00,000 from the Discovery
Channel along with a trophy and a certificate.
Real
Kids, Real Adventures airs on Discovery Kids on Thursdays
at 3.30 pm, Saturdays at 11 am and Sundays at noon.
