ESPN Star Sports kicks off new EPL season with fundraiser

MUMBAI: Sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports kicked off live and exclusive coverage of the 2002/2003 English Premier League season by bringing together some of football's greatest stars and legends for the ESS Sports United Charity Dinner and Auction Tuesday night at the Ritz-Carlton Milennia, Singapore.

Football luminaries who attended the event included former Leeds United manager David O'Leary, ex-England captain Ray Wilkins and ex-Scotland player Andy Gray. Event proceeds will go to the Singapore Sports Council for the Disabled.

Besides mingling with football greats, those in attendance bid for autographed football memorabilia. Among the collector's items which were up for bids include a football signed by Football World Cup champions from Brazil, Ronaldo and Rivaldo, a Manchester United goalkeeper jersey signed by Fabian Barthez, an Arsenal jersey signed by Thierry Henry and a pair of Michael Owen's boots.
