National
Geographic Channel will celebrate Earth Day with its first
annual photo contest. There will be six days of special earth-themed
programming running on the channel from 21- 26 April.
According
to an official release, the channel is giving amateur photographers
the opportunity to define "Earth Day" through their camera
lens. The contest closes on 25 April.
Individuals
can submit original photography to the contest for their chance
to be selected as one of the top ten contestants to have their
work showcased on the National Geographic Channel's Internet
Photo Gallery on 1 May. The grand prize winner will be judged
on 3 May by Canadian National Geographic photographer Paul
Nicklen.
In
America the channel will also debut One Day, One World:
The Weather on Sunday at 8 pm ET/PT. The program circumnavigates
the globe in a single day revealing how each individual on
this planet is both culturally and scientifically connected
to the weather. In India the programme airs at 7 pm on Monday.
