Laws relating to tobacco advertisements to be made more comprehensive and punitive

NEW DELHI: There is a proposal to amend the law governing issuance of advertisements relating to tobacco products to make the law more effective and punitive.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare proposes to introduce the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) (Amendment) Bill 2015  to amend the provisions of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003. 

As part of pre-legislative consultations, the said amendment bill, along with the notes on clauses have been placed at www. mohfw.nic.in with a view to elicit the comments/views of the stakeholders including the general public.
