News channels rake in the views on YouTube: Vidooly


MUMBAI: News as a genre has grown over the years. The consumption is not the same as before because the internet has changed the game completely.

Furthermore, there has been an increase in India’s mobile phone users after the launch of 4G services. With over 460 million internet users, India is the second largest online market after China. By 2021, there will be about 635.8 million internet users in India and this is why news corporations have shifted their focus towards the internet.

Vidooly has released a report on the viewership of TV, digital and print channels on YouTube for the months of September, October and November. The ranking is based on the number of views.

The top-three news networks on YouTube for these months are Network18 with 1.26 billion views, Zee Media with 1.05 billion views and India Today with 476.66 million views. Other news channels on the list are ABP News with 359.96 million viewers (fifth), TV9 with 271.05 million viewers (sixth), V6 News with 263.93 million viewers (seventh) and India TV with 234.13 million views (eighth).

On the digital front, Next 9 News is at the top with 469.99 million views, One India is on the second spot with 166.46 million viewers and NMF news is at the third spot with 158.73 million viewers.

The top-three news channels under the Network 18 group are News 18 India with 48.25 million viewers, ETV Andhra Pradesh with 45.48 million viewers and News 18 Hindi with 43.30 million viewers. Other channels included on the list are News 18 Tamil Nadu, ETV Telangana, ETV News Bangla and CNBC Awaaz.

Top 3 channels under Zee Group are Zee News with 110.13 million views, Zee 24 Taas (Marathi) with 84.09 million views and Zee Ghanta with 9.54 million views. Other channels on the list are Zee Business, Zee 24 Kalak and Zee Punjab.

The top-three channels under India Today Network are Aajtak with 224.44 million views, Tez channel with 24.59 million views and India Today with 23.64 million views.

As for the ABP group, ABP news is on the top with 161.02 million viewers, ABP Majha with 75.43 million viewers is on the second spot and ABP Ananda with 25.24 million viewers is on the third spot.

From TV9 group, TV9 Telugu is on top with 188.67 million viewers, TV9 Gujarati is on the second spot with 36.94 million viewers and TV9 Marathi is on the third spot with 20.88 million viewers.

India TV, owned by Rajat Sharma and Ritu Dhawan, has created benchmarks in innovation, ratings and viewer support in a short period of time. As per the reports, the channel has around 234.13 million viewers.

With the rise of the internet, new business models are proliferating. News organisations are looking for novel revenue sources and a fresh audience that uses the internet as its primary medium for news.
