Synopsis: Raksha and Gautam are looking for a suitable alliance for their eldest daughter Kavita. When a proposal comes in, the Mehra family is excited, and so is Kavita. The boy and his father come to meet them. All seems well and the Mehras are sure that the marriage will take place. However they call back the next day saying that the kundalis don't match. Everyone is dissapointed but they take it in their stride and life almost moves on until they find that the boy's family had actually forgotten to take the kundali with them. Kavita is shattered by this incident.
The Mehra family now think of Varun, a childhood friend of Kavita's, as a suitable bridegroom for her as both Varun and Kavita share a rapport with each other. Varun's father agrees to the alliance and is happy about it, but Varun declines saying that she is a plain jane and he cannot think of marrying her. Kavita unfortunately hears the conversation betweeen Varun and his father and is deeply hurt.
A normally confident Kavita is now unsure of herself and is on the defensive. A third proposal comes, this time from the Khuranas. Karan and his grandmother go to meet Kavita and family. Karan enters Kavita's room to talk to her and to find her views, but when he asks her for her opinion, she tells him that she does not like him and rejects his proposal.
