| MUMBAI:
It was Boogie Woogie on Sony Entertainment Television (Set) that introduced Indian
audiences to the first dance reality show of the country. And
now the channel is to ready to replace the age-old property with a new dance show
as Boogie Woogie takes a seasonal break. Riding on the buzz that the cash-rich
IPL tourney generated for Max, Sony's new offering will be called Dance Premier
League (DPL) with Rin as the title sponsor. Says
Set VP head marketing Danish Khan, "Beginning 9 October, we will replace
the channel's oldest dance reality show Boogie Woogie with DPL that will air every
Friday and Saturday at 8 pm." DPL will be on air for 12 weeks and will telecast
a total of 24 episodes. Conceived
on the lines of the IPL, DPL will be divided into six teams - North, East, West,
South, Central and NRI - wherein each team will be characterised by a logo, a
flag and a name embodying the region. Also, quite like IPL, DPL will have celebrities
representing each team. Avers
Khan, "Like the IPL, we will have celebrities representing each team. We
have received good responses from them as they also get a platform to promote
their movies."
The channel has signed upon Salman Khan for the North
zone while Bipasha Basu will stand for the East zone. According
to a source, the channel is in talks with Kareena Kapoor for the West zone, Akshay
Kumar for Central zone and Prabhu Deva for the South zone. "Shah
Rukh Khan is keen on representing the NRI zone but a call on that is still to
be taken," adds the source. |
