NEW DELHI: Social network site Twitter has launched a new real-time search service which is accessible to all web users.

Says Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, “The new function offers a compelling, if rudimentary way to explore a collective global consciousness There is a lot of intent with search. We are looking at how we can help businesses get more value out of Twitter. One way is to introduce users to some of the organisations that are using Twitter for a fee.”

A new search box has been added to the site on users' homepages as well as at search.twitter.com. The function will be powered by in-house search company Summize. Users can search anything from brands to topics, to people that are being Tweeted about in real time, as well as allowing them to save their searches.

Twitter is currently the fifth most popular social networking site in the UK behind Facebook, YouTube, Bebo and MySpace, according to Hitwise.
