Jharkhand Peoples Party president Surya Singh Besra is planning to launch a news
and entertainment channel targeted towards the tribals in Jharkhand. Named
as Johar TV, it will be a regional multilingual satellite channel and will be
aired in certain parts of Delhi, UP and Jharkhand. "We
have applied for the licence and are planning to lauch the channel in June,"
Besra told Indiantelevision.com. Besra,
who is also MD of the proposed channel, believes that the process will be in shape
only after elections get over. "We
are trying to finalise on the different aspects of the channel like content, funding
and distribution. A joint meeting is scheduled in Delhi on 13 May for the same,"
Besra added. The
channel will showcase news, films, features, dramas and serials. As a multilingual
channel, the programming will be in Hindi and Jharkhand's regional languages like
Santali, Mundari, Ho, Kurukh, Kurmali and Nagpuri. "This
is for the first time that any channel is launching for the masses of Jharkhand.
It is the channel for them, and we will highlight issues pertaining to their lives
with programming aimed to bring forward the culture, festivals and hardships of
the tribals," avers Basera. |
