MUMBAI: Jharkhand Peoples Party president Surya Singh Besra is planning to launch a news and entertainment channel targeted towards the tribals in Jharkhand.

Named as Johar TV, it will be a regional multilingual satellite channel and will be aired in certain parts of Delhi, UP and Jharkhand.

"We have applied for the licence and are planning to lauch the channel in June," Besra told Indiantelevision.com.

Besra, who is also MD of the proposed channel, believes that the process will be in shape only after elections get over.

"We are trying to finalise on the different aspects of the channel like content, funding and distribution. A joint meeting is scheduled in Delhi on 13 May for the same," Besra added.

The channel will showcase news, films, features, dramas and serials. As a multilingual channel, the programming will be in Hindi and Jharkhand's regional languages like Santali, Mundari, Ho, Kurukh, Kurmali and Nagpuri.

"This is for the first time that any channel is launching for the masses of Jharkhand. It is the channel for them, and we will highlight issues pertaining to their lives with programming aimed to bring forward the culture, festivals and hardships of the tribals," avers Basera.
