MUMBAI: Rupert Murdoch-owned News Corporation has elevated Fox Interactive Media/MySpace chief security officer Hemanshu Nigam (Hemu) to a broader role.

In his new capacity, Nigam will be responsible for setting up the strategy and vision for safety, security and privacy programmes across all of News Corporation’s online properties. Meanwhile, he will continue to oversee all MySpace safety, security and privacy programmes.

Based in Los Angeles, Nigam will report to News Corp SVP and deputy general counsel Ellen Agress. He will also work closely with recently appointed chief digital officer, Jon Miller.

“Since he joined MySpace, Hemu has become a nationally known leader and spokesman on Internet safety, security and privacy,” said Agress. “Under his leadership, MySpace has set the bar in online safety and security and we look forward to applying his knowledge and expertise across our vast portfolio of online properties.”

“I am eager to expand upon the great momentum we’ve achieved in online safety,” said Nigam. “I am honored by this opportunity and committed to bringing our company to the forefront of online safety, security, and privacy efforts in the digital media industry.”

Nigam brings approximately 20 years of experience in both private industry and law enforcement fields. Since joining the company in May 2006, Nigam has run all safety, security, privacy, education, NGO and law enforcement programmes for MySpace, IGN and Photobucket. He also oversaw the development of safety, security, and privacy features on MySpace and other FIM properties.
