MUMBAI: Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) a not-for-profit industry body to addresses the issues, concerns and challenges of the internet and mobile economy, has appointed Google India MD Shailesh Rao as its chairman and eBay India country manager Ambareesh Murty as its Vice Chairman.

The announcements were made following the annual general meeting of the Association on 28 April by IAMAI president Subho Ray.

Commenting on his new role Shailesh Rao said, "We need to build a visible identity and collective vision for the internet industry of India. By organiing the relevant stakeholders, evangelizing the value of the medium and advocating proactive government action, IAMAI will emerge as the credible and important platform for digital India."

"The Internet is now the mainstream medium and the priority in the next few years would be to ensure that the IAMAI represents the entire ecosystem of internet businesses in India today including start-ups and early-stage businesses," avered Ambareesh Murty.

IAMAI represents the interests of the internet and mobile value-added services companies in India.
