MUMBAI:
Pressured by the government's concerns over security issues,
the IPL organizers have offered a revised match schedule to
the Home Ministry that would avoid clashes on polling dates.
IPL, sources say, has offered the option of shifting a few
matches during the polls while sticking to the tournament
window from 10 April to 24 May.
With
Home Minister P Chidambaram saying that the government would
be stretched to provide security for both the general elections
and the IPL, the organisers have proposed that they would
go for local police officials rather than national paramilitary
forces.
The
Ministry has already forwarded the proposal to the respective
nine cities where the second IPL edition is to be held. The
final response on the schedule is expected on Friday.
