MUMBAI: Bhutan, which had earlier restricted the airing of several television channels in the country, has finally approved to lift the ban on such channels as Zee Muzic, MTV, Ten Sports, Channel V and STC Music.

Almost five years back, based on a 2004 media impact study report, the then Bhutan communication authority had stopped the broadcasting of various TV channels that showcased excessive violence, glamorising drugs, and explicit content. The banning included channels such as MTV, Channel V and Zee Muzic, FTV and Ten Sports.

The Bhutan Infocom and Communication authority (BICMA) has, however, asked cable operators to refrain from airing channels that broadcast explicit or violent content.

Meanwhile, BICMA Head-telecommunication Wangay Dorji has informed PTI that the government is working on modalities regarding content of channels available under DTH.
