MUMBAI: Rainbow Media Holdings LLC (Rainbow Media) has signed a carriage pact with Numericable, the cable broadband operator to launch the 13-year-old Sundance Channel in France. The channel was acquired by Rainbow Media in May 2008 for $496 million.

Sundance channel will offer audiences a diverse selection of films, documentaries and original programmes. It will be aired in English with French subtitles.

Numericable has constructed a three-point rollout for the new channel. This includes initial video-on-demand (VOD) launch followed by channel debuts in standard definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) television.

"The channel has amassed a devoted following in the U.S. and it's a momentous occasion to be able to expand that impact across oceans with the channel's first distribution outside of the U.S. We're eager to work with Numericable in creating an equally fervent fan base in Europe," says Rainbow Entertainment Services CEO Ed Carroll.

Numericable was formed in 2005 as a result of a merger between France Telecom Cable and NC Numericable and reaches to around 9.5 million homes in France.
