MUMBAI:
The government has granted permission to Chaudhary Devilal
University, Sirsa, to establish, maintain and operate a community
radio station (CRS).
According
to the agreement with the Information and Broadcasting ministry,
the CRS is expected to be operational within three months.
The
Haryana government had established the Chaudhary Devi Lal
University at Sirsa by an Act of Legislature in 2003.The proposed
CRS would primarily serve the university community residing
in and around the campus by inculcating more cohesiveness
among the members through an active involvement in its programming.
Additionally, rural community living in the coverage area
would be served. According to reports, 82.6 per cent of the
population coming under the CRS radius is rural and only 5.8
per cent belong to the urban area.
The
ministry encourages CRS set ups as they provide opportunity
to local communities to express themselves, inform society
about the developmental initiatives of the government and
promote transparency in implementation of the scheme.
