| MUMBAI:
The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League has fetched Rs 910 million
as income tax for the Government under the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) category.
Last
year in August, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had notified that the
multi-million Twenty20 league would be classified under the "professional
services" category.
The
taxes have been accumulated as TDS from the compensation paid
to players, umpires, coaches and commentators amongst others
by the organisers of the cash-rich tourney.
