NEW DELHI: Multi system operators have urged the government to bring out policies that will encourage digitalisation of cable TV as it will bring transparency into the sector.

At the Convergence India 2009 conference, Tamberg TV cable architecture Doug Maghy pointed out that provision of multiple services would boost ARPUs (average revenue per user). “Digital cable will give a chance to provide a gamut of services like IPTV and interactive offerings.”

Airtel Telemedia executive director N Arjun said DTH operators could raise their ARPUs and intensify customer loyalty with interactive services like pay per view (PPV) and video on demand (VoD).

Elaborating on the need for the government to drive digitalisation in India, Conax India CEO Trggve Arueschoug said the benefit would also extend to fighting against piracy of content.
