DELHI: Indias first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi today
said that the programme Aap ki Kachehri on Star Plus
where she had played the role of the judge was an exercise
in social engineering and not just a programme to get TRPs.
She
said that she had applied her knowledge of policing, law and
working in non-governmental organizations in resolving the
60 odd-cases that she had dealt with in the first series.
According
to Bedi, the programme should lead to a movement of social
change where even Resident Welfare Associations can be turned
into alternate dispute redressal forums for preventive and
curative counseling.
Denying
that the programme, which had completed 64 episodes, was being
taken off air, its producer Synergy Adlabs head Siddharth
Basu said that every episode needed a lot of research. Therefore
the second series would be launched when the basic matter
for next batch of cases was ready.
Basu
is presently engaged in preparing an end-of-season report
and this would lead to some follow-ups.
Star
TV chief marketing officer Anubhav Vasudev said that though
the series had come in place of Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi
Bahu Thi, it had proved to be successful.
Meanwhile,
the channel is launching four new shows in March with content
that has consumer focus. These shows include Chehra, Shaurya
aur Suhani and Sabki Laadli Bebo.
Chehra
will replace Aap ki Kachehri at 10.30 pm on 16 March.
