NEW DELHI: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) will hear on 5 August a petition by an aspirant seeking quashing of the recruitment of news anchors for Doordarshan on grounds that there were irregularities and arbitrariness in the selection.

CAT has sent notice to Prasar Bharati to file its reply by then.

The aspirant, H B S Gautam, has also alleged in his petition that the daughter of one Union Minister and the son-in-law of another Union Minister were called for interviews after written tests, while he was not. Some persons who got younger marks were called for the interview.

"The whole selection process is vitiated as the selection has been made most arbitrarily on the basis of pick-and-choose and the process smacks of favouritism and nepotism," the petition has alleged.

He has also alleged that the advertisement for the posts was misleading and some details had been left out.

Two in-house candidates had been called for interview without appearing for written test.

Before he filed the petition last month, the petitioner had sought inquiry under the Right to Information Act, but he was refused access to files.

The petitioner also placed copies of RTI pleas he filed with Prasar Bharati seeking the rules and guidelines governing the selection process and other details.
