The second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) added 21 million viewers,
gaining from the expansion in cable & satellite homes despite a small dip
in ratings. The event, which took place in South Africa, drew in 122 million viewers
as compared to 101 million that tuned in for the inaugural edition.
This
year's final drew in 43 million viewers, compared to 36 million last year. The
two semi-finals got an average of 37 million viewers, as against 31 million last
year. The
TVR for the final is slightly less at 9.3 compared with 9.8 for the inaugural
edition, according to Tam data. The
semi-finals this year clocked an average TVR of 6.3, marginally up from the first
edition's rating of 6.2. The
match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings had a TVR of
6.8. This was much more than what the first semi-final, fought between Delhi Daredevils
and Deccan Chargers, managed at 5.9. |
