MUMBAI: The second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) added 21 million viewers, gaining from the expansion in cable & satellite homes despite a small dip in ratings. The event, which took place in South Africa, drew in 122 million viewers as compared to 101 million that tuned in for the inaugural edition.

This year's final drew in 43 million viewers, compared to 36 million last year. The two semi-finals got an average of 37 million viewers, as against 31 million last year.

The TVR for the final is slightly less at 9.3 compared with 9.8 for the inaugural edition, according to Tam data.

The semi-finals this year clocked an average TVR of 6.3, marginally up from the first edition's rating of 6.2.

The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings had a TVR of 6.8. This was much more than what the first semi-final, fought between Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers, managed at 5.9.
