| MUMBAI:
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Networks Asia has announced that its English
general entertainment channel Sony Entertainment Television (Set) that targets
women in Singapore, Hong Kong and Cambodia will air the shows HawthoRNe
and Drop Dead Diva.
HawthoRNe
marks Jada Pinkett Smith's (wife of Will Smith) foray into TV after about 17 years
of acting in films including The Matrix Trilogy. As an executive producer
on the show, Smith also plays the lead, compassionate head nurse Hawthorne, who
goes out of her way to cut hospital red tape for patients. Other
than physical disorders, viewers can expect to see ailments of the soul in this
character-driven drama series. For a light-hearted turn, there is Drop Dead
Diva for a strange reversal of fates as a beautiful model dies and comes back
in the body of a plus-size lawyer (Broadway actress Brooke Elliott), resulting
in the ultimate showdown between beauty and brains. Guest stars will include fashion
guru Tim Gunn, Jorja Fox CSI, Kathy Najimy King of the Hill and
popular talkshow host Rosie O'Donnell.
Set
head Voo Chih Yeong says, "Sony Entertainment Television
is fast becoming synonymous with leading female general entertainment,
with our plethora of First and Exclusives of highly rated
programmes. SET will continue on its quest for quality entertainment
ahead of the competition, while bringing the freshest and
juiciest programmes to Set viewers."
