| MUMBAI:
The battle amongst the top three players of the most lucrative Hindi general entertainment
channel (GEC) space is getting more interesting with each passing week.
In the
previous week (ended 30 May), the genre saw Zee TV ride on the viewership of Dance
India Dance grand finale to topple Star Plus for the first time ever in nine
years.
However, as per the latest Tam ratings for the week ended 6 June, Star Plus, with
246 GRPs (gross rating points), has once again managed to move ahead of Zee TV
(235 GRPs) to capture the number two spot. But
Colors has again maintained its leadership position for the third consecutive
week with 270 GRPs (See table for details).

For
Colors, the premiere of the Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini fetched a TVR of
4.79 and a total of 39 GRPs. The channel also grossed a total of 63 GRPs from
eight movies that it aired during the week. Star
Plus on the other hand, pocketed 30 GRPs from the eight movies it featured during
the same week while 215 GRPs came in from non-film content.
Commenting
on the ratings, Star India spokesperson said, "We have
recently launched Star Vivaah and Mitwa... and
will be launching the Indian version of Moment of truth
and Aap Ki Kachehri - season two very soon. Our
shows Yeh Rishta and Bidaai continue to dominate
at the top in Hindi GEC. This week Star Plus leads the prime
time and afternoon slots.
Meanwhile,
Zee TV, which managed 25 GRPs from the four movies it aired during the week, grossed
210 points from non-films. The fact that the three new shows launched on Zee TV
during the week have attracted viewers attention is surely a big relief
for the channel. For
Zee TV Saregamapa Lil Champs has opened with a TVR of 3.1 on Friday
(5 June), contending against India-Bangladesh T-20 match, to deliver a 2.8 TVR
on Saturday. Also, the two new daily shows, Aap Ki Antra and Pavitra
Rishta, have managed a peak TVR of 3.3 and 3.2 in their debut week. The average
for the two shows stood at 2.5 and 2.7 TVRs respectively. Says
Zee TV and Zee Cinema marketing head Akash Chawla, We are pretty happy with
the ratings as our new shows have fared really well. After DID, a TVR of
3.1 on opening day for Lil Champs and 2.8 on the subsequent day at
a time when the India match was on is surely a good start.
Zee is also
launching a new weekend comedy-based reality show Hasne Hasaane Ka Divya Tonic
Ladies Special, produced by Endemol India, on 27 June. There are new
shows in the pipeline. Also, if you see the Monday-Friday prime time, 7-11.30
pm, Zee TV is leading with 112 GRPs to beat Star Plus (111 GRPs) and Colors (101
GRPs), adds Chawla. Meanwhile,
Sony Entertainment TV (Set) is yet to move up the ladder from fifth spot even
after the second week of its relaunched prime time. This week, the channel is
hovering at 90 GRPs, seven points below its previous week's 97 GRPs. The fiction
as well as non-fiction shows failed to improve much. Among the new fictions, Bhaskar
Bharti was the top rated show with a peak TVR of 1 while Chittod Ki Rani
Padmini Ka Johar (0.5 TVR), Ladies Special (0.9 TVR) and Palampur
Express (0.7 TVR) failed to grab the eyeballs. However,
a hopeful Set India SVP and head of programming Gurdip Bhangoo said, We
are just two weeks old with our revised schedule. As of now, we are looking at
getting as many people as possible to sample the shows. After launching a whole
new set of shows, its encouraging to see the results of the 9-11 pm slot.
I am not bothered about the numbers as it's too early to judge. |
