| MUMBAI:
The Indian cricket team will tour Sri Lanka next month, allowing the Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to recoup some of the losses it had projected
from the cancellation of the Pakistan tour. Though
Ten Sports has the TV rights for international cricket played in Sri Lanka, it
is not yet clear whether the new tour will go to them for telecasting.
"Since this
tour came up now as a fill-up for the cancellation of India's Pakistan tour, it
is not covered by the earlier long-term sale of TV rights. So we could see a fresh
bid for these rights," says an industry observer who closely tracks such
developments. India
will play five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka.
BCCI
officials announced today that the board had finalised the series in Colombo with
its Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) counterparts. The schedule of the series, however,
is yet to be fixed. "The
itinerary of the tour will be finalised and released in a couple of days,"
BCCI said. BCCI
had, in December, projected a revenue loss of around $25 million from the postponement
of last year's Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the cancellation of two ODIs against
England and tour of Pakistan in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. India's
tour will be held in a window between Sri Lanka Crickets three ODIs and
two Tests on a two-legged tour of Pakistan. |
