DELHI: Actress Preity Zinta, whose team Kings XI Punjab is preparing for the Indian
Premier League series for 2009, has decided to hold a cricket seminar and coaching
camp in Chandigarh to identify, nurture and groom regional talent in the pursuit
of "excellence" for the game. The
aim will also be to find talent in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh
and J&K. This will not only provide a suitable platform to budding cricketers
but also help identify Kings XI with the fans and the regional community as a
whole.
KXIP Cup - a T20 tournament among the teams of the four states - is planned to
be conducted at Chandigarh and Mohali from 28 January to 2 February. The tournament
will be conducted in conjunction with the state associations and in particular
the Punjab Cricket Association. The basic aim of the KXIP cup is not only to recognise
genuine talent but also recruit them in the KXIP team and also the Cricket Academy.
This cup will also be a platform for the States to connect with different community
of the nation. The
matches will be played in a league format among five teams - two from Punjab and
one each from the other three states. Each team will comprise 14 players and two
officials. Every team will play the other teams once and the top two teams will
qualify for the finals. Hence, a total of 11 matches will be played in the tournament.
The matches will be conducted at the PCA Stadium Mohali and the Cricket Stadium
Sector 16 Chandigarh. The winning team will be given cash prize of Rs 3,00,000.
The runner up team will be given a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000. Special
prizes will also be announced for Man of the Match, Man of the Series, Best Batsman
and Best Fielder, Best Catch of the Tournament, Most Promising Player, and Fair
Play-Best Team. Meanwhile,
Shah Rukh Khan has announced a programme on NDTV Imagine to find cheerleaders
