| MUMBAI:
Sony's English movie channel Pix has bagged the telecast rights for the British
Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) Awards. Often
cited as the British equivalent to the Oscars, Bafta is a British charity that
hosts annual award shows for film, television, television craft and video games.
Pix will
air the show at 5.30 am on 9 February followed by the repeat telecast at 10 pm
on the same day. As
part of the upcoming special, Pix will have a Bafta movie-marathon every night
from 1-9 February. The movie line-up has been selected from the Bafta award winners
of the previous years. Films that will air include Chicago, Philadelphia
and The Queen. Pix
business head Sunder Aaron says, "As a channel that airs English movies,
it is an honor to have the exclusive rights to telecast the Bafta Awards. It's
also going to be a special moment for our audience as Danny Boyle's Slumdog
Millionaire will receive its global recognition." Slumdog
Millionaire has received 11 Bafta nominations, which is the highest number
of nominations in the history of the show. Apart
from Slumdog Millionaire, the other films competing for the best film prize
are Milk, Forst/Nixon, The Reader and The Curious Case
of Benjamin Button. |
