MUMBAI: Dish TV has mopped up 120,154 subscribers in December, signaling a slowdown in a year that has so far seen rapid growth as the largest DTH operator went aggressive on customer acquisition.

Dish TV added a peak of 431,253 connections in the month of October and went on at brisk pace to cross the 4.5 million subscriber mark by the third week of November.

A series of price increases have impacted the subscriber growth. "We increased the set-top box price in November and the channel rates in December. We did it unilaterally and this had some impact on our subscriber growth numbers," Dish TV CEO Vinay Agarwal tells

Dish TV has launched a premiere channel on its 'Movie on Demand' service. The direct-to-home operator will broadcast Hollywood and Bollywood movies on this channel within weeks of their theatrical release. As part of this plan, Dish TV premiered the latest Bollywood blockbuster – Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye within 26 days of its theatrical release.

Dish TV is raising funds through a rights issue and has fixed the price at Rs 22 per equity share.
