MUMBAI: National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has acquired the global rights (excluding France and the US) to the six-part documentary series Apocalypse: The Second World War from France Télévisions Distribution.

Apocalypse: The Second World War is one of the 2009 France Télévisions flagship programmes. The series provides a full account of the war and chronicles the tragic destinies of soldiers, civilians and military and political leaders involved in a war that claimed the lives of more than 50 million people.

Apocalypse is a four million euros production that uses archived footage to share these stories, and 50 per cent of the film features previously unreleased imagery. Researchers under the expertise of series directors Isabelle Clarke and Daniel Costelle have combed through footage from around the world, including unedited home movies made by soldiers at war, to produce the series.

NGCI VP acquisitions Carlyn Staudt says, “Apocalypse: The Second World War movingly captures one of the most violent and chaotic time periods in history. The amount of previously unseen archive footage and the quality of the colour HD images sets this series apart from other WWII anniversary programs. NGCI is thrilled to partner with France Télévisions Distribution to bring this series to a global audience”.
