MUMBAI: Dallas-based Blockbuster is joining hands with CinemaNow for delivering
movies over the Internet and providing video rental chain to consumers who want
to rent and buy movies without traveling to a store.
Blockbuster
is headed for this new alliance in a bid to match up with rival Netflix. Netflix
has diversified beyond its DVD-by-mail service by delivering approximately 12,000
movies and TV shows over high-speed internet connections.
The
partnership comes two months after Sonic Solutions, a digital video and audio
specialist, acquired CinemaNow for $3 million. CinemaNow was purchased from a
group of investors including movie studio Lionsgate and Internet gear maker Cisco
Systems.
