Tips Industries Ltd CMD Kumar Taurani has been elected as the chairman of the
board of directors of the Indian Music Industry (IMI) and Phonographic Performance
Ltd (PPL) for 2009-2010. Taurani,
a veteran with over 25 years of experience in the music and film industry, succeeds
Saregama Ltd MD Subroto Chattopadya. "The
prime challenge for content owners, music and films, remains piracy and we are
finding ways and means to overcome this menace," said Taurani. "In the
meantime we are focused in enhancing our partnership with the mobile / telecom
industry, the broadcast industry and bring about increased awareness for public
performance licenses." The
present board members are Sony Music MD Shridhar Subramaniam; Venus Records chairman
Ganesh Jain; Universal Music MD Rajat Kakar; RPG Enterprises Saregama CFO
GB Aayeer; Aditya Music MD Umesh Gupta; EMI-Virgin GM T Suresh, VJ Lazarus and
Saregama VP Atul Churamani. Established
in 1936, IMI claims of representing more than 75 per cent of the legitimate music
industry in India.
IMI
is affiliated to the International Federation of Phonographic
Industry (IFPI) a UK-based organisation having 1450
members in 75 countries, which worldwide protects the interests
of the music industry.
