NEW DELHI: The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, which operates telecom services in Delhi and Mumbai, today launched its 3G services for the people of Delhi.

Aptly named Jadoo, this uses the latest technological trends in wireless technology with services at lightning speed, available at finger tips. Video streaming applications like live TV movie downloads, high speed data download on mobile phones would now be a reality in Delhi, with the company beginning the commercial public offering of these services today.

It is for the first time that the service is being launched commercially anywhere in the country. The launch has been possible on the basis of 3G spectrum allocated to the state owned telecom company by the Department of Telecommunication last year. The company had earlier launched IPTV, VOIP and latest technology ADSL 2+ broadband services as first telecom operator.

This service will also enable customers to see their caller live on screen. Also, customers can make overseas calls using VOIP technology at as low as Rs 3 per minute from mobile to more than 100 countries including Europe, USA and Canada.

For Jadoo one needs to pay just Rs 500 and taxes as well as activation charges, and a monthly rental of Rs 599.

3G Data service will also be available at monthly rentals of Rs 149, and Rs 5 per MB usage charge.

3G services are initially available in NDMC areas, which will be soon expanded to entire Delhi and National Capital Region.

The other major government owned company BSNL has also made preparations to launch its 3G services soon.
