| MUMBAI:
News Corp's UK satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) has pocketed
four out of the six TV rights for the football Premier League. With
the deal, which reportedly is worth $1.4 billion (one billion pounds), BSkyB will
continue showing the majority of live matches of the league. The
Premiere League said in a statement, "The Premier League has awarded four
of the six audiovisual rights packages to BSkyB for seasons 2010-13. We will be
proceeding to a second round of bidding for the remaining two packages in due
course." Each
package consists of 23 matches in the league, which means that the four packages
allow the BSkyB to live telecast 92 of the 138 matches available. Bidding for
the remaining two other rights packages, which cover 46 games, will go to a second
round. |
