MUMBAI: Fox Movies, the Hollywood movie channel from the Fox International Channels (FIC) stable, has acquired the exclusive free-to-air rights of the 81st Annual Academy Awards for the Middle East region.

The channel will broadcast the Oscars live to the viewers across the Middle East on 23 February at 3 am (local time) with a repeat telecast at 9 pm.

This year, the Oscars, to be hosted by Australian actor Hugh Jackman, will be broadcast live from its new home - Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Meanwhile, Fox Movies has also scheduled a month-long Sunday Oscar movie-marathon beginning 1 February. As a part of the initiative, the channel will air three previous Oscar-winning movies back to back, concluding the day of the Academy Awards on 22 February.

Putting the spotlight firmly on the Oscars in the region, Fox Movies will run a local print and online campaign along with a local TV campaign.

Discussing Fox's local marketing efforts, FIC Middle East marketing director Athreyan Sundarajan said, “By conducting an integrated campaign that includes Academy awarded films, contests, interactive on-air content with viewers, we are bringing the Academy Awards experience directly to people in the region in an accessible way, enabling them to enjoy the best of Hollywood from the comfort of home.”
