MUMBAI:
ESPN has secured a broadcasting right to air basketball world
championships and other international tournament by signing
a three-year deal with FIBA, world's basketball governing
body.
The
deal enables ESPN and ESPN2 to telecast world championship
from Turkey in 2010 including all U.S men's national team
games and championship for international basketball tournaments
from 2009 - 2011.
The
tournament includes 2009 and 2011 FIBA Americas Championships,
2009 and 2011 FIBA EuroBasket Championships and 2010 FIBA
Men's World Championship.
"We
are exited to partner with FIBA. The deal enables ESPN360.com
to provide its audience with good content and offers world
championship programming for ESPN and ESPN2. We believe this
deal will continue the growth of international basketball
in the US," says ESPN executive VP of content John Skipper.
Both
ESPN and ESPN2 will air total of 268 games. The ESPN's broadband
network ESPN360.com is available in 25 million homes.
