MUMBAI: The India merchants Chamber (IMC) will organise a conference on Mobile Value Added Services (MVas) on 6 March.

The event will highlight topics of importance for the market in India. Topics that will be discussed include 3G, Mcommerce, Rural Vas, Mfunding and Social networking on mobile phones.

One session will look at Mvas for NextGen (3G) Networks - Opportunities and Expectations. The future of mobile telecom in India has its paths paved with the entry of 3G in the Indian spectrum. In this session MTNL will be demonstrating the application of 3G that is relevant in the Indian frontier. The session will have a look at how the technology finds fertile ground even in its infant days in india.

Another session looks at Vas in Rural markets. The best way for any technology to flourish in India is by claiming its hold on the rural sections of the country. A major part of the country is still in the shadow of technological ignorance. All it takes is a little push ahead to help rural folk realise the benefits of using Vas services to enhance communication and data transfer from one end to another. It is time to heed the betterment of the neglected 70 per cent population of India, notes the IMC.

The speakers are Cellebrum.com CEO Pankaj Sharma, Idea Cellular GM Vas Srinivas Gopal, Nokia Siemens' Steve Collins, Financial Technologies Group co-founder and director of technology Dewang Neralla.

Another session looks at Social Networking and Mobile Marketing/ advertising on mobiles. With the new wave of PC users concentrating most of their online time to social networking, 3G is expected to facilitate services that encourage and strengthen this sector. The strong corporate giants in India have never missed a medium to advertise their products. MVas will open many new doors to advertise and market their products efficiently.

The speakers are AdMob Enriching Mobile director, market development Zubair Jandali, SMS Gupshup founder Beerud Sheth and Geodesic founder and president Pankaj Kumar.
