DELHI: Doordarshan is to telecast live the two twenty-twenty
matches and the five one-dayers between India and New Zealand
commencing this week.
While
Max has the rights for showing the entire series live, Doordarshan
will telecast the shorter matches under the Sports Broadcasting
Signal (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act 2007. The
Rules permit DD to telecast the matches on terrestrial or
direct-to-home mode.
The
first T20 match is being played on 25 February at Christchurch
while the second one is on 27 February at Wellington. The
five one-dayers are at Napier on 3 March, at Wellington on
6 March, on 8 March at Christchurch, on 11 March at Hamilton,
and on 14 March at Auckland.
Though
a notification issued subsequent to the Act had stated that
Prasar Bharati could also broadcast "such test matches
as are considered to be of high public interest," a Doordarshan
source told indiantelevision.com that the three tests from
18 March at Hamilton, at Napier on 26 March and at Wellington
on 3 April were not being telecast.
Under
the Act and the rules framed thereunder, Prasar Bharati can
decide whether it or the rights holder will handle marketing
of commercial time for the series and after the bids are opened
in the presence of both parties, the revenue will be shared
on a 75:25 basis, with 75 per cent going to the rights owner.
