Yahoo to launch mobile web service

NEW DELHI: Yahoo is all set to launch its mobile web service on smart phones for users across the globe.

Yahoo Executive Vice President Marco Boerries said, “We believe the new Yahoo Mobile will transform the way millions of mobile users around the world will interact with the Internet. Yahoo Mobile will enable users to create their own Internet starting point on their mobile device so they can better discover, connect to, and stay informed about the people and things that are important to them.”

 

The new service will be available on mobile web, as an application developed for Apple iPhone as well as an application developed for smart phones manufactured by phone companies Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola as well as those powered by Windows Mobile.

Yahoo Mobile will initially be made available through a managed beta programme. For mobile web and the iPhone, the service is expected to launch in late March 2009, while for smart phones the service will be launched in late May 2009.

 

At the time of the launch, country versions of Yahoo Mobile will be available for India, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Indonesia and the Philippines while versions for other countries will be rolled out over the of the year.

The service will offer mobile search, email and social networking functions accounts and content - websites, sports teams, news sources, RSS feeds, weather, stocks and horoscopes.
