MUMBAI: The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has granted permission to Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University for establishing, maintaining and operating a community radio station (CRS) at Hisar, Haryana.

As per the agreement, the community radio station will have to be operational within the next three months. With this, the total number of community radio stations in the country will rise to 60.

The CRS would be beneficial to communities surrounding suburban areas of Hissar. The objective is to reach out to the communites, particularly those who are poor, literally challenged farmers and socially and culturally underprivileged people.

It aims to address issues that concern the community through participatory programmes, and improve the quality of life in general and agricultural activities of the farmers in particular.
